Interpreting is not who you are, it’s what you do. Don’t tie your self-worth to your next bad day.
Nobody went to the morgue and nobody went to jail, by definition it went fine; go to sleep.
Avoid “interpreterese,” everything did not happen to Deaf people “a long time ago” Every story a person who is Deaf tells is not “a story I will never forget.” Deaf people don’t “DECIDE” to do everything-often things just happen (sigh)! Oh, and every sentence does not begin “so” nor does every sentence end “and.”
It is not possible to “plagiarize” an interpretation; if it worked for that interpreter then and it works for you now, use it!
“Interpreter knowledge” is not real knowledge.
It’s just hundreds of disconnected facts you picked up interpreting. You don’t really KNOW anything about any of it.
Interpreters only need to know two things:
- Sign Language; and,
- Everything Else.
No Officer, I can’t make “my” Deaf person calm down. I can’t make him do anything!
Because this is not “my” Deaf person.
- Birthed; or,
- Purchased this Deaf person.
I can interpret for you.
