Rule 268

Just one day each month, turn off your cell, unplug your phone, turn off your computer and go outside, or  stay inside or paint or fish or (gasp) sleep, take a class at community ed having nothing to do with ASL, go to a community event and tell people you are an IT specialist…just be absolutely unavailable to the interpreting life for 24 hours.

Caveat: It will freak you out the first time you do it, and be more stressful than working.  It will freak you out the second time and you will sweat and shake like and addict watching the clock til you can plug back in. But the third time you will feel the hint of the benefit.  By the fifth time your “walk-away” day will become sacred.

These blogs (I have two) began as a series of sayings I use to teach interpreting workshops, and political diatribes on Facebook. They moved from Facebook to this blog site: 1. as a way to remove them from my head (cuts down on the noise in there); and, 2. to give a better home to both my less serious and satire laden posts and my more serious satiate laden posts. I guess it's up to you to decide which is which.
